Week #2 of the SEP Blog Battle 2012.
This week our title was “Good Idea, Bad Idea”. For me, this one is short and simple…I will have both!
In our line of work, we are constantly solving new/different problems from yesterday. If I always settled with the first idea that came to mind, I would be shooting myself in the foot constantly.
Good thing I’m a developer and don’t really need my feet…
…see, even my first idea of trying to be funny was likely a bad idea.
At any rate, using the first idea is rarely the most effective way of getting the job done. I have found that it is much better to first “diverge” and come up with many ideas, and then “converge” and pick the idea that has the best fitness for the problem and the system.
