The What & Why of Continuous Discovery
Event Recap
We had the privilege of hosting Teresa Torres, author of Continuous Discovery Habits, for a webinar with our teams and clients. Though the session wasn’t recorded, the ideas she shared continue to shape how we approach product discovery.
What we love about Teresa’s teaching is how grounded it is in real-world experience. Her frameworks aren’t just clever diagrams; they’re the result of years of iterative learning, rooted in the day-to-day work of product teams. That practicality really resonates with us. Her Opportunity Solution Tree framework has become an important tool in our discovery efforts. It brings a different level of clarity to both our decision-making and our client conversations.
During the session, Teresa emphasized the power of small, fast learning cycles, moving away from one-and-done research phases and toward a habit of continuous interviewing and rapid experimentation. This shift from project-based discovery to continuous product discovery is at the heart of her message, and one that aligns closely with the challenges we see in modern product development.
As one attendee put it:
“Teresa made it clear that continuous discovery isn’t a side activity. It’s the backbone of good product work. It challenged me to think differently about how we prioritize and validate ideas.”
Teresa’s book offers a path toward that discipline. It’s a practical, repeatable guide for making better product decisions with less guesswork and more direct learning from customers. For teams seeking to reduce product risk and simplify their discovery process, her book is essential reading.
At SEP, we’ve incorporated many of these ideas into our own Product Discovery process. We regularly map opportunities, identify assumptions, and test solutions using small experiments before scaling efforts. Perhaps more importantly, we’re working on the mindset shift: moving from a project-based approach to a more product-centric culture where discovery doesn’t just kick off a project, but continues throughout the product’s lifecycle.
We’re grateful for Teresa’s visit and the opportunity to learn directly from her. Her teaching continues to shape how we think, how we listen to customers, and how we help our clients build better products with less risk.
