Our Story

Founded With Purpose

Founded in 1988, SEP has grown into one of Indiana’s largest software development companies, but size has never defined us. What matters most is helping clients build products that serve real needs, stand the test of time, and carry their mission forward.

Started by Rose-Hulman graduates, SEP was built on a simple idea: create a place where people can do their best work—a place where talent thrives, and support starts on day one.

From the beginning, we tackled complex, regulated domains including aerospace, defense, automotive, pharma, and heavy machinery. By the early 2000s, our work expanded into energy, banking, and medical devices. Today we work in fields as wide as construction design, entertainment, and financial services.

We earned our ISO 9001 certification in 2003 and continue to uphold it as part of our commitment to quality. In 2010, we became employee-owned, a milestone that reflects our belief in shared success. That same year, we ranked first among Indiana’s Best Places to Work—a recognition we’ve earned every year since. 

Today, our 180-person team partners with organizations from Fortune 100 companies to growing startups. The values that shaped our earliest years still guide how we collaborate, how we solve problems, and how we build products with care—because when software matters to you, it matters to us.
